It’s our pleasure to welcome you aboard Discover Danube’s Finest. This classical cruise from Performance Today features stops in Berlin, Leipzig, Salzburg, Vienna, and more. We’ll be joined by special guest Andrew Staupe, a PT Artist in Residence who debuted to rave reviews at Carnegie Hall and has performed with symphonies nationwide.
Join us as we explore the capital cities of classical music, wandering local streets, strolling through marvelous museums, and savoring unique dining. We’ll celebrate history’s greatest composers, from Bach and Mozart to Beethoven and Schumann, visiting their homes, seeing the locations that inspired them, and following in their footsteps.
As befits a Performance Today cruise, this trip is filled with live music — from concerts in Budapest, Leipzig and Salzburg, to a private champagne recital at Mozarthaus in Vienna. You’ll also enjoy tours of celebrated opera houses and symphony halls, like Vienna’s Wiener Musikverein and the Budapest Opera House. Plus, we’ll feature intimate conversations with and performances from our featured guest Andrew Staupe.
Our trips sell out quickly, and space is limited, so we encourage you to reserve your spot soon. We look forward to sailing with you next October!
When Fred Child is elsewhere on the planet, Valerie Kahler often sits in the PT host chair. Valerie grew up in a musical family, playing cello and piano to please herself and her parents, and singing loudly to annoy her siblings. She still sings loudly with the Prairie Fire Lady Choir, an acapella rock–n–roll cover choir in the Twin Cities, and remains an enthusiastic cellist who loves to sightread chamber music with friends. Valerie has been in classical radio for 25 years, fifteen of those as a host and producer for APM's Classical24, a nationally syndicated 24-hour classical music service.
Andrew Staupe will once again serve as the Performance Today Artist in Residence on this exclusive classical music adventure. Emerging as one of the distinctive voices of a new generation of pianists, Andrew made his Carnegie Hall debut to critical acclaim in 2012.
